Privacy Policy

1. Who we are
Discord Translator is a Chrome extension that provides real-time translation of Discord messages. For questions about this policy, contact us at contact@weminal.com.
2. What the extension processes
To provide translation, the extension sends the text of Discord messages to an AI provider. Here is exactly what happens:
- When a new message appears in Discord, the message text is extracted and sent to your configured AI provider (DeepSeek or ZeroG API) to be translated.
- When you press the outgoing hotkey, the text you typed is sent to the same provider for translation before posting.
- These requests go directly from your browser to the AI provider's API — they do not pass through any server owned or controlled by the extension developer.
This message data is subject to the privacy policy of whichever AI provider you configure (see Section 6).
3. What the extension stores locally
All data stored by the extension lives on your device only, in chrome.storage.local:
- Your API key — stored locally so the extension can authenticate with your chosen AI provider. It is never sent anywhere except to that provider's API endpoint.
- Settings — source/target language, active provider, outgoing hotkey preference.
- Translation cache — recently translated strings, stored locally to avoid re-translating the same text. This cache never leaves your device.
- Translation counters — two numbers counting incoming and outgoing translations. These are for the popup display only and never transmitted anywhere.
4. What we do not collect
The extension developer collects zero data. Specifically:
- No Discord messages or message content
- No usernames, user IDs, or Discord account information
- No API keys or credentials
- No browsing history or website visits
- No analytics, telemetry, or usage statistics
- No crash reports
- No personally identifiable information of any kind
There is no backend server, no database, and no data pipeline owned by this extension. The developer has no technical means of accessing your data.
5. Permissions
The extension requests the following Chrome permissions:
- storage / unlimitedStorage — to save your API key, settings, and translation cache locally on your device.
- Host permission:
https://discord.com/*— to inject content scripts that read and display translated messages inside the Discord web app. - Host permission:
https://api.deepseek.com/*— to send translation requests to DeepSeek's API when DeepSeek is selected as the provider. - Host permission:
https://api.freemodel.dev/*— to send translation requests to the ZeroG API when ZeroG is selected as the provider.
6. Third-party AI providers
Discord Translator supports two AI providers for translation. You choose which one to use and supply your own API key. When you use either provider, message text is sent to their servers under their terms and privacy policies:
- DeepSeek — deepseek.com/privacy
- ZeroG (api.freemodel.dev) — refer to the ZeroG / freemodel.dev terms of service for their data handling practices.
The extension developer is not affiliated with and does not control either provider. Review their policies before entering an API key.
7. Data retention
Because no data is collected by the developer, there is nothing for us to retain or delete on our end. All locally stored data (API keys, settings, cache, counters) can be cleared at any time by:
- Removing the extension from Chrome (deletes all stored data permanently), or
- Clearing extension storage from Chrome's developer tools.
8. Children's privacy
This extension is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly process any information from children.
9. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
